The Types of Background Checks

There are six main types of background checks. The very first one is employment reference check here the employers will attempt to investigate the candidate’s previous work experience and records. They may contact his/her previous agency and ask how good or bad the candidate was as an employee. Basically, feedback will be collected from previous employers. Then, a character reference check is usually conducted to make sure that the employee is good as a person and as a human being too. is attitudes and beliefs will also be judged. Gaps in employment history are also investigated to see if the employee is prone to frequently change his/her job. The results will communicate the candidate’s loyalty to the firm.
Basic identity and address verification checks are also run to make sure that the employee is who he/she says he/she is and lives where he/she says he/she lives. Previous addresses can also be given. It is also usually confirmed if the candidate holds a directorship. Lastly, the credit history is also explained. Usually, this does not include the candidate’s credit score.

Other checks can also be run on the candidate. This may include his/her history as a student, for example. However, the older the history is, the lesser the influence it will have on the final results of the selection process.

When people run background checks, there are three main reasons behind the action. First of all, the financial history of the target is checked to make sure there are no heavy credit items. Having bad credit history and a lot of outstanding dues will negatively affect the results. If loans have been taken too frequently, then the check-runner will think that the candidate is too unpredictable with his credit history. Commercial records are checked to make sure that the target does not buy illegal stuff or invests too much in drugs, alcohol or tobacco. Employers are less likely to trust people who are not in their right senses most of the times. Lastly, criminal records are checked as well. Employers will not want people who have been involved in a number of different criminal activities as this will adversely affect the workplace and its environment.
